Getting photographed is part of growing up in the modern age but even when offered through schools, a small set of portraits can quickly get to £40 or more. When offered through a retail chain, a set of portrait prints can cost hundreds of pounds, with high-pressure sales tactics thrown in for free. This strikes me as profoundly unfair. Everyone should have the experience of getting a formal portrait taken and it should be an enjoyable experience, rather than a fleecing.
In my effort to become a better portrait photographer, I want to offer free portrait sessions to children and families in Leith. I am donating my services and hoping to be awarded a small grant from @£eithChooses to pay for printing. In this first attempt, I hope to photograph 25 family groups. Please vote for me on 3 March at the £eith Chooses Event in the Kirkgate.
